With the 2018-2019 school year, ISBE has implemented new state accountability measures for high school students. Beginning April 2019, all 9th grade students will be required to take the PSAT 8/9 and all 10th grade students will be required to take the PSAT 10. These tests will be completed on a school day and students will be excused from their classes for the duration of testing.
In the 20-21 school year, students will take the PSAT between April 14-23.
Students can prepare for these assessments by reviewing the Student Guide, which includes an official practice test. Links to the student guides are below:
Sophomore and Junior students are eligible to take the PSAT/NMSQT in the Fall semester for a fee. This test is administered in October. The scores from the PSAT/NMSQT (for 11th grade students) are used to determine eligibility and qualification for the National Merit Scholarship Program. Students can benefit from this exam as additional practice for the mandatory Spring assessment.
Registration will take place in the HEHS Counseling Office. The deadline to register is typically the 3rd Friday in September. The cost to take the test is $16. If paying by check, please make payable to Hartsburg-Emden Jr/Sr High School.
Personalized Test Prep with Khan Academy & CollegeBoard.org
Students get free Official SAT Practice powered by Khan Academy. After receiving their PSAT/NMSQT scores, they will receive a unique SAT study plan based on their performance by linking their College Board and Khan Academy accounts. All students who take the PSAT will be automatically registered for a College Board account on test day. Khan Academy practice can be used to prepare for the PSAT/NMSQT because of the close alignment of these tests.
PSAT/NMSQT Score Reports: Scores from the October PSAT are expected to be delivered to schools by mid-December. Scores from the April assessment are expected to be available in late May and will be delivered to school mid-July. Students will be able to access their scores at studentscores.collegeboard.org.
